what's up fellas it's great to see you

and as always I'm glad that you're here

today we're going to talk a little bit

about how to wear dress shoes with jeans

to make sure you pull off this classic

look with style all right fellows once

again I am glad you're here really quick

my name is John and I'm the founder of

40 over fashioned comm where I've been

creating content relating to men's

lifestyle since 2014 so today we're

talking about wearing dress shoes with

jeans which by the way is a fantastic

look that can work in tons of different

situations however there are some

definite do's and don'ts when it comes

to pulling off this look with class okay

so let's talk about the denim for just a

second so the denim that you choose

should be a fairly dark wash to kind of

a medium dark wash with minimal to zero

distressing unfortunately this look just

does not look that well with a light

wash Jean or even jeans with a really

heavy distressing or even rips and tears

next your jeans should fit you really

well for example I'm talking about a

nice slim taper down to the foot and

also pants that are an appropriate

length that aren't too long or they

puddle and sort of bunch up down at your

foot wide leg openings and excessively

bunching and puddling material down at

your foot can absolutely hurt the

overall look that you're probably going

for so now let's get into the shoes

themselves so I would absolutely stay

away from formal dress shoes with a

really high polish or a high shine black

shoes can work but I personally go with

brown I think brown is way more

versatile it's more casual not to

mention all the different varying shades

of brown that you can choose from a pair

of Oxford's like this from Allen Edmonds

and you guys know I love these shoes

these are absolutely perfect to wear in

this combination the color goes with

just about anything and all the broguing

basically all the little hole punch outs

make the chute by nature more

you can also go with a pair of double

monks like this one from magnani or

single monks if you prefer however a

shoe like this

although beautiful from Becket Simenon

is a one cut or a hole cut and it's just

a little too formal to pull off with

jeans so another more casual option

instead of an Oxford is to go with the

Derby so unfortunately I don't own any

derbies at the moment but kind of

consider the Derby to be the little

brother to the Oxford here's how you

tell the difference on an Oxford the

leather that the laces pass through are

essentially closed and sewn here at the

bottom on a derby so I'll have to use

these chukka boots as an example the

flaps are sewn on the top of the vamp

and they're open at the base so you can

put your fingers up through here so

that's the basic difference between an

Oxford and a derby with the Derby being

the slightly more casual option loafers

are another great option but keep the

shoe design in mind for example the more

stuff or broguing that a shoe has the

more casual it is for example a tassel

loafer is more casual than a penny

loafer but both are still acceptable

also a brogue wingtip Derby is more

casual than a plain cap toe Oxford

lastly guys if you're going for that

smart casual look you'll want to be

wearing some type of button-down dress

shirt and hopefully you've got it tucked

in not wearing it untucked the pattern

on the dress shirt can be pretty much

anything but keep in mind that the

smaller and tighter the pattern is the

more dressy it is if you want to take

this to the next level and really do it

justice throw on a sport coat you'll

look like a million bucks so if you dig
